Since the last hat I made my husband stretched out of shape when he wore it to shovel snow last year (a version of the Irish Hiking Hat, in one of the Cascade yarns), I wanted to make him a new one for his birthday. I only had a few days to get it together, so I went to Michaels for some Lion Brand. I totally lucked out with the colors. They had exactly what I needed for a VA Tech hat (his alma mater). Funny how in these pictures he is wearing a Penn State shirt. His parents are PSU alums, so we have quite the mixture of collegiate clothing at our house. Of course no FO is complete without the Bean's modeling pic:

Don't you just love the touch of "cheetah" belt. Goes great with the hat.

Thorping Around

I was going to do my review of the new Rowan Classic book, but I accidentally left it at home today. The perils of blogging on your lunch hour! Instead, I have an FO.

Pattern: Thorpe by Kristen Kapur (free pattern)
Yarn: Homespun by Lion Brand Wool, colors Olive and Rococo
Fiber: 98% Arcylic, 2% Polyester
Amount: 2 skeins, one of each color
Needles: US 8 Addi Turbos

This is the BEST hat pattern. There is even a stranded version if you want a bit of color pattern going on. I needed a quick present for my nephew's bday, and this certainly fit the bill. Only three days of Metro knitting. Seriously, anyone who understands how to knit in the round could easily whip out this pattern. I made the medium size, but my gauge was a little on the small side. It fits me, so hopefully it won't be too big for him. The Bean looked so cute in it that she will most likely be getting one for her birthday. I might even make one for myself!
