"Nice Knits"!

Wine, Cheese, and Yarn

Last night I met up with some knitters at Cheesetique in Del Ray. Danielle from Knit-a-Gogo was hosting a Knitalong night, and there were probably about 15 of us who showed up. Cheesetique is a cheese and wine shop that also has a small bar/restaurant in the back. I ate sparingly all day so I could enjoy this:

Cheese board

It was wonderful! Cheesetique has a great selection of wine and cheeses, and their menu has a lot of non-cheese items as well. It was hard to make a decision, but I really wanted to try out the meat and cheese platter. The items in the picture include: Bucheron, Elderberry Chedder, Maytag Blue, Bresola (like prochuttio), Rosette de Lyon (like a salami), and Mini Finocchiona (sausage with fennel). The wine was a Malbec which went perfectly with the meal (Naiara Reserve, 2005, Mendoza, Argentina). I wasn't a total hog, but brought some home for my husband to try. I tell you it was hard to keep my hands off of it in the car ride home!

Danielle plans to have these knitalongs the third Thursday of the month. For now they will be held at Cheesetique, but check her blog to be sure the location has not changed. I met quite a few new knitters, and I definitely plan to attend next month. I will just have to watch what I eat a week in advance!

Knitting with Marzipan

By way of another blog (sorry, don't remember which), I saw this link to the VeganYumYum Web site. They have a tutorial on how to create "knitted" items out of marzipan. I bet these cupcakes are 10 times better tasting than wool ;-)  Even if you aren't a vegan, take a look around the site. It has great photos, and lots of yummy looking food.

Brownie Bliss

BrowniepanIntroducing the Baker's Edge. A brownie pan that makes "edges" only. I LOVE brownie edges! The people who came up with the idea for the pan did so through a nationwide contest. They have a recipe section on their site, and even have a recipe for lasagna (a link to the PDF).

I must say the $32 price is a bit steep for what I would pay for a baking pan. I probably won't be getting one since I am sure at my house I can find someone interested in helping eat the brownie "middles".

The Kitchen

Img_2467_1As I mentioned yesterday, I was able to visit the Julia Child exhibit at the Museum of American History before it closed for the next two years. Here are some of the pictures I took. The last one is of her fridge. The kitchen exhibit is the real-live kitchen from her home...complete with old phone books on the shelf and a fridge full of magnets and photos. The photo here to the left is my favorite. I am pretty sure it was taken by her husband in their very first kitchen in Paris. I love how large she looks in that setting. She contrasts so perfectly with that dainty little stove. Bon Appétit!
