"Would You Like Some Blocking With That?"

Fryupplate2_1I now have a plate, an egg, and a BIG piece of bacon done for the Fry Up bag. As you can see, some serious blocking will be in order when I am done. I have been deliberating on whether to do another plate and make the bag round, or make a tote bag out of fabric to make it look like the plate is sitting on a table ....kind of how it looks here. Then, I could add some silverware and a napkin...really do it up diner style! I still have another egg to do (who only eats one egg?) and a piece of toast before I start the bag part, so I'll keep thinking on it. If I don't make the tote bag, I will definitely be buying handles for this and not making the strap like the pattern.

Barbies_1I went to Late Night at Knit Happens last night, and this is what was going on in my living room when I got home...

Apparently, I missed SOME kind of party!

*Note: If you live in the DC Metro Area, don't forget that Saturday is Knit Happens' one-year birthday! Kristine plans on having prizes, cupcakes, and 10% OFF EVERYTHING IN THE STORE! The bean and I have already planned to get there early to join in the festivities (and get some yummy cupcakes, of course)!

Blue Plate Special

I won't be able to post much in the next few days because my bean is celebrating her 3rd birthday and have a weekend of festivities planned (Gosh, I about tear-up everytime I think about how she is such a big girl now). So, a quick update...

Fryupplate_2I have been working on my Fry Up Handbag. This is the start of the plate.

It was a pain to put together! The pattern itself is kind of weird, so I ended up and followed the advice of someone who is also working on this knit. The plate is knit similar to the saucers in the Interweave Tea Set pattern (the pattern is at the bottom of that page). I started out on two dpns and then on one round increased in between each needle and in between the stitches on the needle. Next round just knit. Worked my way up to 4 dpns and then switched to a circular. I don't think I used the right kind of m1 stitch as I ended up with these pretty pronounced ridges, but I figure there will be "food" on top, so whose going to notice. And if anyone says anything, I'll tell them to go knit their OWN plate and see how it goes! I am almost ready to cast off, so after this weekend I should have pictures of actual "breakfast."

And here is my little bean...all grown up. Happy Birthday Miss Thing!

Let Them Eat Eggs!

Stacey at Sheep In The City is hosting the best knit-along...The Fry Up! (see the cute button at left) I  mentioned this pattern in an old post (see October archives). I have the best ideas for this knit. Once Clapotis is finished, there will be bacon frying over here at Nice Knits! Although, I think I will pass on the hat.

Eggs, Anyone?

I have been meaning to post about this for a while, but I keep forgetting. This has got to be one of the coolest bags I have ever seen. I first saw it at Creazativity's Web site in her finished projects album. As soon as I have my current projects finished, I am going to work on this. It is just too cool for words. I have always been into crazy bags, but this one takes the bacon...I mean cake!

Fryup2

You can find the pattern here, and if you want to see the one Creazativity made, take a look. I like hers better without the beans and other weird breakfast food the original shows.

I think I will pass on the hat though...
