I wanted to make the bean a sweater for fall to replace the one she has now that has mysteriously gotten too short. (Please don't mention that she is obviously getting bigger...I don't like to think about it!) I looked around and fell in love with this sweater by Louisa Harding (from Rowan #34) called "Bowmore". I figured it would go pretty quick, and it looked very toasty. Since the Polar the pattern called for is now discontinued (and still pretty expensive), I was able to get a great replacement from KnitPicks..."Sierra" in the color "Pool." I started a few nights ago, and am now close to finishing the back. I also got yarn to make the "Bodgit" hat from the same Rowan issue. The hat will be from the "Pool" and a darker blue called "Tide", and I will tell you that the colors shown on the KnitPicks site are pretty close to actual color. It was a toss up because the yarn isn't machine-washable, but I'm pretty happy with it. Besides that fact that the sweater and hat only ended up costing me around $25 vs. the $60 if I had used the Polar!
It is FINALLY getting a little cooler here. There may actually be a chance that the bean gets to wear the sweater before we go straight into snow mode. The husband was lucky enough to get some help this weekend with the leaves. Although, I think wearing the ear protection from the leaf blower was the main attraction!
