We did it! My aunt and I finished the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer this past weekend. We had a great time...despite all of the rain (it rained all day Saturday and part of Sunday). I have already signed up for next year's walk in San Francisco, and my husband even decided to participate. Oh yeah, we forgot to tell him that we plan to do the WHOLE 39 MILES next year. After his face turned white, I pointed out that he has a whole year to train. Please, the man runs around playing soccer for 45 minutes straight, I think he can handle a measly 39 miles in two days ;-)
Here are a few pictures from the Walk.
(photo 1): Start of the race on Saturday. Notice the abundance of rain gear.
(photo 2): At the Wellness Village at the end of Saturday. Me, hubby, aunt, bean.
(photo 3): Tents at the Wellness Village. Very, very wet tents.
(photo 4): Getting our Starbucks on Sunday am. You do NOT want to be in line with 50 other women at a Starbucks with only two employees. I love the look on my aunt's face because some guy walked in front of our camera just as the picture was being taken.
(photo 5): As you can see, the Prez did not come out to hand us water. Figures.
(photo 6): My aunt with Elvis and a few showgirls at the "Vegas" themed lunch.
(photo 7): The crowd at lunch. Notice the line of Port-A-Potties. The cleanest I have ever seen!
(photo 8): Finish line!
This is my favorite photo. My hubby made the bean a shirt to wear to welcome us home. It said "Heroes, Mommy and Lisa" with the breast cancer ribbon around the words. He even put the "r" backwards. I about cried when I saw that shirt. He is just too wonderful! Unfortunately, he thought he was using fabric paint when he was making the shirt, but it was actually washable glitter glue. The shirt is going to go home with my aunt to become part of her "Walk" quilt she is planning to make.
