An Xmas Present and Something for Me

I swear, I hate naming posts sometimes. Sorry for the lack of creativity on this one.

I bought some Colinette Giotto a while back to make a scarf for a wedding we were attending this month. Good thing I looked at the calendar last Wednesday because I didn't realize the wedding is this Saturday! Hurry...Hurry...Hurry! It took me two hours on Wed. to get the yarn untangled and wound around a piece of cardboard. I took it to late night at Knit Happens, and I want to thank everyone there who kept me from cutting the yarn into a million pieces. Talk about a tangled mess! For those of you who have yet to have the pleasure of knitting with ribbon, it is NOT fun! It looks great, but I could not imagine making a sweater with this stuff. Colorway is "Gauguin"

          

Detail of the stitches below - I am using a drop stitch pattern that I got when I bought the yarn. Pretty easy, just a little time consuming with trying to keep the ribbon from twisting. Plus, I had to get some bambo straights for this one. I am normally a circular devotee, but the ribbon really needed the structure of the straights to help hold the stitch shape. I normally don't like straights at all, but I have become kind of fond of these. They remind me of REALLY big chopsticks.

 

I am pretty sure I can get it done by Saturday. I want to keep the scarf itself on the short side and then add really long fringe that has been knotted on the end.

Since it seems I can never visit Knit Happens without picking something else up, I grabbed the following on Wed. night to make my sister a scarf for Xmas.

 

It is the Alpaca Silk from Blue Sky Alpacas - color "Ice". Has anyone else out there made this scarf? The yarn is super soft, and it looks like an easy pattern to remember. The pattern is free on their site. My sister is pregnant, and I wanted to get her something pretty for Xmas that she didn't have to worry about "fitting" in any way. Something that is just for her and isn't a candle or bath soap...the standard pregnant girl gifts. I hope she likes it.

I think that the Opera Scarf will be a lovely gift for your sis - it shows that you really put some thought into getting her something special. :) It's great - she'll be able to wear it and feel pretty throughout the pregnancy and will be able to throw it on and feel pretty once the baby is here (you know, when you're not feeling so pretty, lol). MUCH nicer than the standard "pregnant girl" gifts. :)
